About the Food...
Chicago's cuisine is so varied that it is hard to define one particular type of cuisine. There is such a diversity of cultures including Chinese, Greek, Jewish, Mexican, Polish, Ukrainian, Italian, Middle Eastern, Ethiopian, and Vietnamese, and even Peruvian. Chicago's food is famous for their deep-dish pizza and their original hot dogs. Most people who visit Chicago do not leave it unless they try these two delicious dishes.
Chicago's Hot Dogs
A Chicago-style hot dog is an all-beef frankfurter on a poppy-sead bun. The hot dog is topped with everything you could imagine including yellow mustard, chopped white onions, bright green sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices, pickled peppers and some celery salt. The completed Chicago Hot Dog is sometimes referred to have being ‘dragged through the garden’ because of all the toppings. The method of cooking the hot dogs varies depending on the chef’s choice. They can be steamed, simmered or grilled over charcoal. Despite all the toppings that these hot dog’s have, they are not served with tomato sauce. A number of Chicago hot dog restaurants don’t offer ketchup as a condiment. These Hot Dogs are perfect for all ages and can be eaten at any time of the day, as either a snack or a meal.
Deep-dish Pizza
The Chicago deep-dish pizza was invented Pizzeria Uno, in Chicago, in 1943. The main difference between the deep-dish pizza and other normal types of pizza is that the crust in very deep. The pizza itself resembles a pie more than a pizza. The thick layer of toppings used in the deep-dish pizza requires a longer amount of baking time which would burn the cheese if it as used as the top layer of the pizza. In the result of this, the toppings of the pizza are put together upside-down from their usual order in a pizza. This means the crust is covered in cheese, then various meat options including different types of sausages, then other toppings such as onions, mushrooms and capsicums. Then a sauce is added to the top as the finishing layer. Just as the Chicago Hot Dogs, the deep-dish pizza is suitable for all ages and is mostly served at lunch or dinner as a meal.
